SSA Invited to Downing Street

The Scottish Seafood Association CEO, Jimmy Buchan was invited to attend a special reception at 10 Downing Street on Tuesday, February 27th, 2024.

Hosted by the Rt Hon Steve Barclay MP, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and the Rt Hon Mark Spencer MP, Minister for Food, Farming, and Fisheries, the event honoured Community Food and Farming Champions who have made notable contributions to the industry.

During the evening, ministers Barclay and Spencer thanked UK food producers for their contribution to Food Security and hard work, offered their continued support and confirmed they understood the challenges both fishing and farming industries face.

Mr Buchan was nominated to attend the event by MP David Duguid who recognised his dedication to advancing the interests of the Scottish seafood community on behalf of the Scottish Seafood Association.

A leading advocate for Scotland’s seafood sector, the Scottish Seafood Association has a wide membership across Scotland representing the seafood processing sector and supporting industries. The association plays a crucial role in lobbying the government on behalf of its members, advocating for policies that support sustainable practices and economic growth within the industry.

Commenting on the event, Jimmy said, “I have invited Minister Barclay to visit the northeast and see firsthand the seafood supply chain in Scotland. The dialogue is open and hopefully as we engage further, the needs and challenges of the sector will be heard and acted upon.”

The Scottish Seafood Association will continue to engage with key stakeholders to further promote the interests of its members and the sustainable growth of Scotland’s seafood industry.
