SSA Chief Executive Jimmy Buchan Awarded MBE in New Year Honours

The Scottish Seafood Association (SSA) is proud to announce that Chief Executive Jimmy Buchan has been awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours, recognising his outstanding services to the Scottish fishing industry.

Jimmy Buchan’s contribution to Scotland’s seafood sector spans more than five decades. From his early career at sea to his leadership at the heart of the industry, he has been a tireless advocate for fishing, seafood processing and the coastal communities that depend on a strong and sustainable seafood supply chain.

Throughout his career, Jimmy has consistently championed the people who work across the sector — from fishing vessels and processing facilities to logistics and export — ensuring their voices are heard at the highest levels of government and industry.

Leadership Built on Experience

Jimmy’s leadership is grounded in lived experience. Having worked directly within the fishing and seafood processing industries, he understands first-hand the challenges faced by businesses and workers across the supply chain. This insight continues to shape his work at the SSA, where he remains focused on securing fair recognition, practical support and long-term sustainability for Scotland’s seafood sector.

His advocacy has helped position Scottish seafood as a strategic national asset, vital to food security, rural employment and international trade.

A Proud Moment for the Sector

This honour recognises not only a lifetime of dedication to Scotland’s fishing heritage, but also Jimmy’s ongoing commitment to building a resilient future for the industry and the communities it sustains.

It is a proud moment for the Scottish Seafood Association and its members, and a richly deserved recognition of Jimmy’s leadership and service.

Congratulations, Jimmy.
