Lobbying
We aim to represent our members to display a unified voice of the seafood processing sector, to actively influence and advise Government as well as devolved administrations on matters of policy and legislation.
We welcome information & feedback from our members on the issues which are important for seafood processing businesses to thrive.
Networking
As the national representative body of the processing sector, the aim of the SSA is to promote and protect the interests of the sector while creating and maintaining stronger links with the wider industry.
We make sure our members’ voice is heard during policy and decision making processes at all levels of government and within the various bodies representing the Scottish fishing industry. In doing this we recognise that it is vital to effectively engage with the catching sector, to share information and to ensure that we work together for the mutual benefit of both sectors and the long-term future of the fishing industry as a whole.
We sit on a number of industry bodies, and we also represent the Scottish processing sector at industry events and conferences at home and abroad.
Training & Consultancy
The Scottish Seafood Association (SSA), in association with the Scottish Seafood Training Network, offers a number of training courses for members, delivered at our training centre or onsite in the workplace by our Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS)/Seafish approved trainer.
We can develop and implement a Food Quality Management System including HACCP based on your site and product range.
This can be a review of a current system which needs updated to keep pace with food safety inspections. Alternatively we can create a new system.
Provision of ongoing support can be provided as required.
We have experience in SALSA and BRC Audit requirements and can help you on your journey to accreditation.
MSC Accreditation via the SSA Group Scheme

This can improve working practices, promote tidiness, aid in temperature control, increase product quality and shelf life and reduce allergen risks.
