Scottish Seafood Association (SSA) is proud to support learners with online learning and has been providing mentoring support to learners in a number of courses and programmes delivered online.
SSA CEO and Managing Director of Amity Fish Company, Jimmy Buchan, has benefited from the support, after embarking on the Seafish/REHIS Intermediate Food Hygiene online learning programme. Although Jimmy already has the Seafish/REHIS Introductory Food Hygiene qualification, he was keen to take advantage of the SSA support and embark on the full learning programme online. The structure of the course and the online nature of it, helped Jimmy to learn at his own pace, when time allowed and meant that he could plan his learning around his busy work schedule.
Jimmy comments on the process:” As a learner, I was given a link and log in to the Highfield website and allocated a mentor. Since Amity Fish Company is a member of the SSA, I was allocated Jean Meikle Technical Training Manager at SSA to help with course information and she provided me with revision notes to work through, ensuring I had a solid understanding of the course. She was really helpful and answered lots of questions that developed my knowledge and understanding, which was invaluable.
I’m pleased to have successfully passed the exam. It was challenging, but achievable and it is a great qualification for me as a food business owner to have.
I would encourage others to progress in this field as it certainly helped me to manage and run Amity, as a growing seafood supplier”
Jean Meikle Technical Training Manager at Scottish Seafood Association explains how the Seafish/REHIS Intermediate Food Hygiene online learning programme works:- “The course is in modular format and requires working through each module online. This allows for flexibility meaning the learner can learn at their own pace. There are multiple choice questions at the end of each module to ensure the learner has understood the learning in each module. A mentor is provided in case there are any questions during the course and there is then an online exam with extended answer questions.”
