In recent months, the Scottish Seafood Association has continued to engage constructively across Scotland’s wider food production landscape to ensure seafood remains central to national conversations on food security and rural sustainability.
On Saturday 22 November, the SSA took part in a food producers’ gathering organised by the NFU, where the seafood sector was warmly welcomed as an equal partner. Joined by Elspeth Macdonald from the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation, we represented Scotland’s seafood interests alongside colleagues from agriculture.

The discussion reinforced a shared message to government: Scotland’s food-producing sectors – land and sea – are fundamental to our economy, our communities and our national food security. Local politicians and councillors from across parties stood firmly behind that message.
Standing shoulder to shoulder with farming and fishing partners highlighted the common challenges we face and the importance of collaboration in protecting livelihoods, heritage and future opportunity. The SSA will continue to play a proactive role in ensuring seafood processors and coastal communities are heard, respected and supported.
